Got questions about Tour Guided?

1. What is the minimum and maximum number of riders for each tour?

To ensure safety and the best possible experience, we recommend each tour group consist of 1 to 15 riders, with up to 5 additional pillion passengers. Based on group size, we will provide the following support team and vehicles:

1–3 riders: 1 tour guide

4–5 riders: 1 tour guide + 1 mechanic

6–9 riders: 1 tour guide + 1 mechanic + 1 support vehicle

10–15 riders: 2 tour guides + 1 mechanic + 1 support vehicle

For smaller groups (1–5 riders), a support vehicle can be added upon request, especially if you're carrying extra luggage, traveling with pillion passengers, or may require backup due to health concerns.

2. How much luggage can I bring on a Guided Tour?

All FLAMINGO TRAVEL Guided Motorbike Tours come equipped with a rear luggage rack and elastic bungee cords for securing your bags. The amount of luggage you can carry depends on whether you're riding solo or with a passenger, as well as on the bike model:

  • Up to 25kg backpack — if you’re riding solo, for all standard bike models.
  • Up to 10kg backpack — if you have a passenger, for all standard bike models.
  • Up to 35kg backpack — if you have a passenger and ride a manual touring bike such as the Kawasaki Versys 300 or Honda CBX/NX 500, which can come equipped with side panniers per customer request.

Note: Groups of 1 to 5 riders can add a support vehicle if carrying extra luggage.

3. Will I receive some kind of information about the tour before arrival?

Yes, you will be receiving your initial confirmation email which outlines the arrival and departure dates so you can plan your travel arrangements. From there you will receive a welcome packet with all the necessary information 30 days before your tour start date.

4. How much cash do I need to bring?

While the tour price covers almost everything - except for personal expenses such as phone calls, tips, souvenirs, alcoholic drinks, and personal travel insurance - we do recommend bringing an additional minimum of US $200 for optional purchases if you plan to explore local markets or pick up unique handmade crafts, as well as to cover unexpected emergencies you may encounter outside the scope of the tour.

5. How about food in Vietnam?

Vietnamese cuisine is a highlight of the journey! Expect fresh, flavorful dishes made with local ingredients. From famous street foods like pho, banh mi, and spring rolls to hearty home-cooked meals in the mountains, you’ll get a true taste of the culture. We cater to most dietary preferences — vegetarian, vegan, or food allergies — just let us know in advance.

6. Can I book Self-Guided Tour without a license?

Technically yes, but it’s risky and not recommended.

In Vietnam, you're required to hold either:

  • A valid Vietnamese motorbike license, or an International Driving Permit (IDP) based on the 1968 Vienna Convention, with motorbike (A1 or A2) endorsement.

Most IDPs based on the 1949 Geneva Convention (common from countries like the U.S., Australia, Japan) are not valid in Vietnam—even if they include motorbike endorsements.

However, we also understand that if we refuse to rent you a motorbike due to the lack of a valid license, you can still easily rent one elsewhere in Vietnam. Therefore, we encourage you to consider carefully and make the decision that’s most appropriate for you.

7. What happens if you get caught riding a motorcycle without a license?

- Police fines: You can expect to be fined around US $20 – US $50 if you’re stopped at random police checkpoints, but up to US $200 if you’re stopped at checkpoint in Ha Giang area.

- Insurance issues: Most insurance policies (including travel insurance) are void if you don’t hold a valid license recognized in Vietnam.

- Legal responsibility: In case of an accident, even if it’s not your fault, you might be held fully liable if you don’t have a legal license.

8. What should I do if I have an accident during the tour?

Your safety is our top priority. In case of an accident:

  • - Stay calm and assess your condition – if injured, wait for assistance and avoid moving unnecessarily.
  • - Call the guide or support team immediately – we’re always nearby - and ready to respond.
  • - Let us handle the situation – our team will assist with medical care, motorcycle recovery, and paperwork.
  • - Travel insurance – make sure you're covered before the trip, as this will help with any hospital or emergency costs.
Minor accidents are rare and usually manageable, but we’re fully prepared to support you in any case.
9. What happens if I need to cancel my Guided Tour reservation?

We ask for a deposit 20% of total tour cost in order to confirm to secure your booking(s).
The balance will be paid when you come Flamingo Travel office.

If you need to cancel your guided tour, the following terms apply:

  • - More than 44 days before departure: Full refund deposit paid issued as store credit.
  • - 31 – 44 days before departure: 50% cancellation fee of deposit paid (minus any bank or transaction fees); the remaining 50% refunded as store credit.
  • - Within 30 days of departure: No refund deposit paid.

10. How will we meet in Hanoi?

We will arrange a pre-departure briefing session at our office or garage to introduce to you the route (with maps) and the minority people with whom you will come into contact.
Here, we will also provide you with all the equipment you will need, and go over any questions you may have.
