Self-Guided Tours
Mai Chau Valley 2 days Self
Mai Chau Valley 2 Days Tour offers a perfect escape from Hanoi into the peaceful countryside of Northern Vietnam. On this journey, you will ride through scenic roads along rivers, lakes, and limestone mountains before arriving in Mai Chau, a beautiful valley home to the Thai ethnic minority. Guests will enjoy traditional stilt house accommodation, authentic local cuisine, and a cultural Thai dance performance. The second day takes you back to Hanoi via a different route, passing the impressive Thung Khe Pass and Hoa Binh Hydroelectric Dam, with options for both smooth roads and adventurous off-road trails. This short but memorable trip combines stunning landscapes, cultural experiences, and an authentic taste of rural Vietnam.
Brief Itinerary
Day 1
Hanoi – Mai Chau (170Km/ approx. 6 hours)
We depart from Hanoi and, with the river as our companion, we head north to Hong Son Lake. On the way, you can admire the enthralling scenery, comprised of small islands crowned with tall evergreen trees and endless limestone peaks that provide an ideal combination of peace and wilderness in perfect balance.
Our ride continues up north and goes on giving us breathtaking views, as we ride on smooth, flat road until we reach Maichau in the afternoon. You can take some time to wander around the place, get to know the people and explore the town a bit more, just before dinnertime.
After enjoying your dinner, you have the opportunity to watch a local festive, the Thai Dance music show with traditional Thai music.
Overnight at Thai traditional stilt house.

Day 2
Mai Chau – Hanoi (150km/approx. 5 hours)
Today, we head back to Hanoi from a totally different and equally fascinating route. As we ride east north, we will go past the famous Thung Khe pass, and all the way to the city of Hoa Binh, Vietnam’s largest hydroelectric dam (and probably the largest in South Asia, too).
With minor exceptions of a handful of bends along the way, the ride today will be easy, and take you from the highland Vietnam to the Hoa Binh, the Da River and finally back to Hanoi.
Depending on your mood, we can either head straight back to Hanoi by road, or challenge ourselves with a bit of off-roading, and see more of this fascinating country! You make the calls!
